Investigation technique is the process of probing a stake holder in order to gather as much information as possible.

Brainstorming:
Brain storming is a creativity technique performed by a group of people to find or derive a solution for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas contributed by the participating group members.

Document Analysis:
Document analysis is qualitative research done on the existing document to frame a meaningful inputs for the new system requirements.

Reverse Engineering:
Reverse engineering is also called as back engineering. It is a process of examining and extracting information from the existing system to build or enhance the performance of the new system.

Observation:
Observation is a investigation technique in which we decode the information based on our observation from the existing system and form inputs and outputs for the new system to be built.

Focus Groups:
Focus group is an interactive group assembled to discuss about a product or solution where they share their impressions, preferences, beliefs and attitude towards the product or solution.

Work Shop:
Work shop is a structured and facilitated event of gathering stakeholders together to discover , refine , validate , prioritize and discuss requirements.

JAD (Joint Application Design):
Joint application design is a structured group of stakeholders and system analyst to gather requirements aiming at developing a solution.

Interview:
It is a activity performed by BA where BA questions , captures, interprets and understands the intention of requirements requested by the client for building a specific solution.

Prototyping:
In prototyping BA business analyst prepares models of the solution proposed through which stakeholders understand how the solution exactly looks which help them further provide much specified requirements.

Questionnaire/Survey:
Questionnaire is a popular technique used in gathering requirements where BA prepares a questionnaire and distribute it among the stakeholders from which he gathers the opinion, insights which helps a BA to gather requirements or information from multiple sources in stipulated time.
